Cheyenne County is an art destination! We have a beautiful art gallery and many local artisans. Art is everywhere, you just have to look for it!
In 2023 Cheyenne Community Development Corporation was awarded a TEFFI Seed Grant for community vibrancy. With those grant dollars we created 7 murals.

There’s No Place Like St. Francis

The Welcoming Roundtop
As you travel east on US Highway 36 about a mile before you enter Bird City, you will know you are close! This amazing mural will catch your eye. If you look close there are a few surprises hidden on the windmill blades, tractor parts and barbed wire and don’t forget Bird City has been here since 1885!
Our History on the Museum
As you travel west on US Highway 36 through St. Francis on the south side you will see this piece of art on the side of the Cheyenne County Museum that will direct you to our downtown. The art itself has a story to tell. This mural is a reinterpretation of a digital painting by Dan Keller, which itself draws inspiration from a 1905 photograph by Edward S. Curtis, the eminent photographer and ethnologist celebrated for his extensive journeys across the United States diligently documenting the Native American tribes.
It’s Full Steam Ahead in Bird City!
Bird City is home to the Tri-State Antique Engine & Threshers Association. Since 1953 they have been putting on the Thresher Show. So now when you look south at the Thresher Grounds you will see Roy Kite the founder of the show welcoming you to Bird City.
Oh, the Beautiful Arikaree Breaks
When you are on Washington Street in downtown St. Francis look to the south, on the front of Owens True Value. You won’t want to miss the view the western meadowlark has of the Arikaree Breaks!
When you come to visit the Arikaree Breaks don’t forget to visit downtown St. Francis, we have something for everyone!
